Nearly a decade after a large portion of the rear wall of the historic Jarratt House on Pocahontas Island collapsed, the City of Petersburg has engaged quality craftsmen to stabilize the exterior brickwork and begin the restoration of the interior spaces.
On Sunday November 15 at 2 PM the Historic Petersburg Foundation will recognize and celebrate the ongoing restoration. The public is encouraged to attend and learn more about this important structure.
With the weather forecast to be favorable, the event will be held at the house – located at 221 Logan Street – so folks can see the work that is being done.
Presenters will include:
- Warren Davies of Virginia Masonry, the firm undertaking the extensive brick repairs.
- Representatives from Daniel and Company, the general contractor, on additional interior work as part of this project.
- Kate Sangregorio , the Preservation Planner for the City of Petersburg, on the process that has achieved the current work and plans for additional work.
- Sergei Troubetzkoy, the City’s Tourism Director, on the importance of Pocahontas Island as part of our outreach.
- John Jarratt on his family’s history at the house and on Pocahontas.
