Historic Petersburg Foundation invites you to a talk on Wednesday, July 17, 2019 at 7 p.m. at the Union Train Station when Dave Givens, Director of Archaeology for the Jamestown Rediscovery Team will present Stamped from the beginning: the archaeology of race and diversity in early Jamestown.
Since 2001, Mr. Givens has served as a Senior Staff Archaeologist with the Jamestown Rediscovery project. Dave has over 30 years of archaeological experience. He produces the Jamestown Rediscovery book series that summarize the findings of the team and the process of discovery through history, science, forensics, and archaeology.
In 2018, Dave was named Director of Archaeology for the Jamestown team. He holds a Master’s Degree with distinction in historical archaeology from the University of Leicester and undergraduate degrees from Virginia Commonwealth University in anthropology, sociology, and Russian language.
Dave has been overseeing the Jamestown Rediscovery team and the ongoing excavations to locate where representative government – Virginia’s first General Assembly – met in July of 1619. While successful in finding those lost spaces, the team was also able to define the multiple iterations of the subsequent Jamestown churches in that same location.
Join Mr. Givens as he recounts the latest findings of the Rediscovery team and their efforts to interpret the found spaces for our Nation’s 400th anniversary in this commemorative year. This talk is free and open to the public. Bring a friend!
